In 1997, Chris Duncan, the designer of the Hummbug and founder of Vintage Speedsters of California turned his attention to the Jeep Wrangler.

In November the Landrunner was introduced. This conversion package, designed to appeal to the off-road enthusiast while retaining the integrity and enhancing the performance of the legendary Jeep Wrangler, was an instant hit, and took home the Design of Excellence award from Chrysler that year.
